Life can take you down a twisting path. My “artist path” came about rather suddenly towards the end of my 40-year corporate finance career.
My artwork was born out of two primary life experiences. Surfing and cancer. Surfing brings a person into some of the most pristine locations on earth. My 50 plus years of surfing world-wide is the bedrock of my work as an artist. The second is my ongoing battle with Leukemia. I had a prolonged and difficult recovery from a bone marrow transplant in 2019 & could not surf for almost two years. The treatments left me physically unable to do just about anything. As I was recovering for 2 months in the hospital, I started sketching waves in various settings. I dug through my large collection of surf magazine photos and images on the internet. The images created visions in my mind that I wanted to create into art. I had a lot of down time to experiment with paint, colors, brushes, various surfaces, etc. As I painted, my learning accelerated. I developed skills & “know how” which enabled me to achieve the artwork I wanted to portray. My artwork is the direct result of thousands of hours of thinking & painting combined with the unending support from my wife, family, and close friends for which I am forever grateful. Not happening without them!
My Goal is to place the viewer into pristine surfing locations as if they were actually there themselves. I want them to feel the incredible energy these unique environments provide. I am retired now and will use this opportunity to share my creative abilities and artwork with everyone. Enjoy!
