Deborah Fleming

Debby Fleming-Mellor grew up in Flushing, Michigan. Under the tutelage of her uber talented high school art teacher, Richard Wolfgang, she won a first-place award in a state-wide high school student art competition when she was in the 11th grade. After that came college, marriage, work and children and art fell by the wayside for more pressing life issues.

In the mid-2000s, Debby started classes at Los Angeles-based fine art school, Mission: Renaissance. Thanks to a comprehensive program developed by Larry Gluck, Debby’s art muse was rekindled and her skills honed. She’s also taken classes with well-respected watercolorists Stan Miller and Lian Zhen and pastel artists, Mary Aslin and Brenda Boylan.
In 2019 Debby entered her first juried show at the Laguna Beach Art-A-Fair where she sold her very first painting; she has never looked back.

Her artwork was also displayed in the Orange County Fine Art Showcase Gallery in 2019, and in addition to Art-A-Fair, she shows her work at street fairs throughout San Diego County where she lives with her husband, Myles Mellor, who is a world renown crossword puzzle creator.

Myles and Debby love to travel and spent a year in Europe in 2016 and 2017. Many of her works are taken from photographs she took in Europe.

Debby is skilled in watercolor, pastel and oil and she's recently fallen in love with abstracts she creates with acrylic paint. Her detailed watercolors, pastels and oils are popular with her many fans who LOVE her perspectives of architecture, landscapes and cityscapes, reflections of any kind, flowers and animal portraits.

Recently, she's started learning to throw pottery on a wheel - a lifelong dream since she was 19 - and she's having a blast. It's not as easy as it looks, but she's determined to figure it out!

In 2021, Debby was accepted as an Associate Member of the American Pastel Society, and she is a member of the San Diego Watercolor Society.

She's won first place for her watercolors from the La Jolla Art and Wine Festival two years running.

You can see her work in person during the summer months at Laguna Art A Fair; every January she's amongst her favorite creatures at the San Diego Cat Fanciers show at the Del Mar Fairground; in April she's on Beech Street at Artwalk Little Italy; in August you'll find her down by the San Diego airport at Artwalk Liberty Station; in September she's just above the Carlsbad flower fields at Artwalk Carlsbad and finally in October, the La Jolla Art and Wine Festival.
