Surf, Art & Heart: Local Artists Hit the Airwaves to Raise Funds for Creative Education

The vibrant energy of ArtWalk Little Italy got a head start on CBS News 8 as I had the amazing opportunity to go live and talk about a cause close to my heart—raising funds for art classes in underfunded schools. Alongside my talented friend and fellow artist Lamonte Lamoureux, we showcased a glimpse of what’s to come at this year’s ArtWalk: ten custom-painted surfboards, including our own, are being auctioned off in support of this mission. Anna Laroche from Art Reach also joined us to spotlight some of the incredible auction items available this year. As featured artists ourselves, we brought a few pieces to display—despite a little wind that had me placing one of my works on the ground mid-interview!

Thank you to CBS8 News Anchor, Anna Laurel, and the team at Artwalk for an amazing opportunity to help others.

From April 26 to 27, the Mission Fed ArtWalk returns to the streets of Little Italy, filling the neighborhood with a range of art pieces, from paintings to sculptures to glass work and more. Attendance is free. Two of the featured artists this year - Kate Joiner and LaMonte Lamoureux - offered a live preview of their work on CBS 8.

This event, now in its 41st year, supports ArtReach San Diego. This non-profit aims to increase equity in visual arts education in K-8 schools across San Diego County by delivering free or low-cost workshops to schools that have no other art resources.
